A life-long musician Brian has been playing the piano for over 30 years. He picked up one instrument after another throughout his schooling and also developed a passion for music arrangement and composition. In 2004 he received his Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education and Piano Performance from the University of Massachusetts at Lowell. In 2011, he completed his Master’s in Music Education also at U MASS Lowell. From 2005 to 2013 he was the director of Music at the River Valley Charter School in Newburyport where he organized and conducted 9 instrumental ensembles, 5 choirs, and taught general music to students in Kindergarten through 8th grade. Since 2013 he has been the Music Director at the Nock Middle School in Newburyport where he is conducts the 6th, 7th, and 8th grade concert bands, a 6th grade boys choir, and the 7th-8th grade Jazz/Rock band. Additionally he teaches Music Technology classes to 7th and 8th grade students and is the Director of the Spring Musical Productions. Also an accomplished Theater Music Director Brian has worked for many theaters throughout Massachusetts performing in and conducting productions such as The Producers, Avenue Q, Little Shop of Horrors, Hair, Chicago, and The Fantasticks. In his spare-time Brian is an often commissioned and award-winning composer having written original scores for student films such as Lord of the Flies and Romeo & Juliet and community theater productions such as The 39 Steps, The Jungle Book, It’s A Wonderful Life, and The Laramie Project. Currently teaching Clarinet, Saxophone, Trumpet, and Piano, Brian owes much of his much of his musical opportunities to his tenure at the West Newbury School of Music. He certainly sees no end in sight as WNSOM is a truly rewarding and enriching community to be a part of. Brian lives in Amesbury with his wife Kate and their 3 cats.
